Calculation Methodology
Global Duty Calculator produces an estimate from the inputs entered by the visitor and the rate assumptions encoded in the calculator. It is not connected to a customs authority and does not issue an official customs decision.
Inputs
- Origin: the country from which the goods are treated as originating for the estimate.
- Destination: the country where the goods are imported.
- Product category: a broad category used to select an estimated duty assumption.
- Product value: the declared goods value entered by the user.
- Shipping cost: transport cost entered by the user, where applicable.
- Quantity: the number of units entered by the user.
How to interpret the result
The result is an estimate of potential duty, VAT and total landed cost under the assumptions used by the calculator. It should not be treated as a customs invoice or a guarantee of what a carrier, broker or customs authority will charge.
Why an official result may differ
Actual import charges may depend on the exact HS classification, country of origin rules, preferential trade agreements, customs valuation, Incoterms, brokerage or handling fees, excise taxes, local exemptions, de minimis rules and changes in national legislation.
Verification
For a high-value shipment, regulated goods, commercial imports or any situation where the exact amount matters, verify the applicable tariff and tax rules with the destination country's customs authority or a qualified customs professional.
